LO3: Be able to plan the recordings for a cinematic quality scene
The purpose of the short film is mainly to educate but can also be used to entertain.
The product we are making is a short film. The film is about a teenager who is bragging about his sexual experience but it backfires because he catches an STI. The genre of film that we are producing will be a social realism film.
The plot of the story is that, at the beginning of the story, the main character goes to a party with his friends with an aim to have sex with as many people as possible. He goes into college to tell all of his friends his sexual experience and bragging about them. He then goes to the doctors and the doctor explains that he has tested positive for an STI. The theme of the story is coming of age, this is because this situation only occurs when you're in your teenage years an above where the characters become adults. This is because the character will learn a lesson about this experience for the future. The characters will be; the main character will be Jack: Jack will be a stereotypical straight male who will learn a lesson from receiving an STI. His character traits will be, he is quite arrogant but confident. Another character is Mac, Mac is the doctor who tells the main character that he has an STI, the doctor will also give the main character the news that the protagonist has an STI. The other character is the main characters friend. This is the character who the main character is bragging about. This character has the same characteristic traits and appearance as the main character. h is also the stereotypical straight male. Binary opposition isn't used in this film because the characters in the film are stereotypical and we understand the story through only 1idea. The cause and effect Terry by Pam Cook is important in the film, this is because the main characters actions have a consequence. this means that having unprotected sex lead to the character having an STI in the future. The conventional structure theory is used in our short film. this is because the protagonist/ main character wants to live his life normally and wants peace but the doctor tells him he has an STI which gets in his way. Also, this narrative can be understood via a mystery, this is because you don't know what's going to happen throughout and is a mystery what is going to happen to the main character. The narrative also shows the character roles as the characters first enter the scene and is easy to figure out each characters character roles.
The target audience demographic would be teenagers aged 15-21. This is because people of that age could be going through the same thing. Also, the gender of the target audience will be males. Also because they could be going through the same situation. The job category of the target audience would be job category D and E. This is because they will either have a low cost job or will still be in education. This is because of their teenage age. Also, the ethnicity of the target audience could be any ethnicity. This is because it could be any ethnicity that could be going through this problem and could be trying to gain advice rom out short film production. The target audience could be any religion that could be trying to gain advice from our short film production. The psychographics of the target audience would be most likely either a mainstream audience. This means that they seek security, tend to be domestic, conformist, conventional and sentimental. It is a large group of people that value their money for popular brands. This could be the target audience for our short film production because it is a large audience group and the problem that occurs in the video is a popular occurrence that happens to 15-21 year old's and mainstreamers. The short film could also target strugglers. Strugglers seek escape. Alienated and disorganized. Few resources beyond physical skills. Buys alcohol, junk food, lottery tickets. This could link to the struggler stereotype because it is likely that they could be going through a situation similar to the one that occurs in the video.
The team members are Euan, Mac and Jack. Macs role is the main character and is also in charge of creating the risk assessment, the budget for the equipment and is also doing a lot of the editing. Mac is the doctor in the film and is also doing, the mood board, story board, some of the production schedules, filming some of the film and some of the editing. Euan is the main characters friend in the film and is in charge of creating the proposal, the regulation and ethical considerations, some of the production schedules, the call sheet and filming some of the short film. The equipment used to make the film would be; a camera to film the shots, a tripod to keep the camera stay and to get a better angle of the shots, a microphone on the camera so you can hear the actors as they speak, a drone to get a high angle hot of the school at the start of the short film, a dolly camera to get a side shot, lenses for the camera to have a better camera quality, lights and reflectors to get a better quality of camera shot (if not use natural lighting.) The software that we need in order to edit the film would be adobe premier pro. this is because we have access to it in school and is the best editing software we have access to. Also it is cheap in cost so we don't have to spend our budget on the editing software.
The place where the short film will be distributed will be on social media platforms where the target audience will be active on. This will include platforms like YouTube which is a popular platform for teenagers which can be available at all times at a cheap cost. We can also distribute our product at a film festivals in England. BFI London film festival and Leeds international film festival are examples of film festivals in the UK. As a prosumer, you can distribute the product on YouTube, this is because it is the most popular streaming platform for prosumers and is a low cost for prosumers with a limited budget. An example of a prosumer distributing their product on YouTube is about a girl by Brian Percival.
We will shoot our film at 30 fps. This is because it has been the standard frame rates for television and films for a while. Also, there are no slow motion effects so the short film wont benefit from a higher frame rate. The aperture that we used is the standard aperture for filming. This is f/2.8. This is because it results in consistency in light and exposure between scenes. The ISO in the film is 100. This is because it is considered standard for filmmaking. The higher the number the better for darker situations. But our film isn't seen as a dark film so it needs to be bright which means 100 ISO is perfect for our film. The shutter speed on the camera is 1/60. This is because it is the basic camera setting for filmmaking. Also, if the camera speed is any higher than the video is likely to be blurry. We will be using bright settings on the camera because the bright lighting will infer to the audience the genre of the film straight away.
These are our storyboards that we used to plan our cinematic quality footage. The top storyboard is the scene where Mac walks into the doctors office for his test results. The camera settings we used for this scene was an ISO of 0 as we used artificial lighting in the room so there was no need to lighten or darken the scene. Our aperture value in this scene will be 4.97 which means our lens will let light in so you can see what is happening clearly.
This next storyboard is where we are planning to film around a pool table as that is a typical game lads play. In this scene we used artificial lighting from above the pool table which means when we look to talk to each other, half our face is darkened the other is lit up because there will be no other light around us. This links to Roland Barthes' enigma code theory as the lighting creates a mystery and the mystery is if Mac has contracted an STI from the party.
